March ‘22 Newsletter

In honor of SkillBites’ 10th anniversary, I am hosting a summit with a ton of experts to help people write, publish and prosper from a business book.  The Summit will run from March 23 – 25 and is FREE to attend!  If you have ever considered writing a book, or are looking for information about how to publish a book, or you’ve published a book and want to get more out of it, you should sign up.  Grab your Complimentary Ticket Now!  Read more about the summit below.

Last month my husband and I took our first trip since the pandemic, and our first vacation in four years.  It was so wonderful to get away!  We went whale watching and came upon this baby whale having a lot of fun breaching, flapping its tail and waving its fin.  If you haven’t taken a vacation recently, I highly recommend planning one in the near future.  I’m sure you’ll be glad you did.

4. Tip of the Month: Book Margin

Recently, an author came to me with an issue with her book.  The text near the fold in her book was hard to read; you practically had to break the spine to be able to read the last word on each line.  Unfortunately, the person she used to create the layout for the book did not realize that for books, you need a larger margin on the inner edge of the page than on the outer edge of the page.  We were able to fix that for her, but in the meantime she had to scrap the 50 copies of her book she purchased that she had planned to give to people, plus the extra cost to fix the layout and the added delay in getting her book out there.

There are so many little issues that can sabotage your book.  When you are self-publishing, you either need to make sure each contractor you use, whether for editing, layout, cover design, or other service, has specific expertise with book publishing, or you need to retain someone with that expertise to oversee everything for you, or hire a firm like SkillBites to handle the entire process for you.
