November ‘20 Newsletter

I am writing this newsletter on the day after the election.  Regardless of which side you supported, it is obvious that there is a huge divide in our nation, and it is my fervent hope that with the election past us, we can work together to figure out how to bridge that divide.

November is a time to reflect on all that we are grateful for, to remember the veterans who risked their lives to help maintain our security and the soldiers who continue to protect our country and its interests.  I am particularly grateful for my wonderful husband and son, my extended family and friends, my health, my SkillBites community and the great country we live in.  What are you grateful for?  I want to thank all of you for being loyal members of our community.  As a token of my appreciation, I have a special gift for you, which you can read more about below.

1. The SkillBites Show

Our next the SkillBites Show will be on November 16 at 1 pm ET / 12 pm CT / 11 am MT / 10 am PT, my guest will by Jackie Lapin, founder of SpeakerTunity.  She provides speakers, experts, authors, coaches and entrepreneurs comprehensive lists of speaking opportunities and the contact information for those opportunities in their market of choice.  In this episode, Jackie will talk about getting booked on stages, radio, podcasts and virtual summits.

There are people out there waiting to hear you! They need what you offer–your inspiration, guidance, wisdom, coaching, books and products. And the only barrier for them becoming your next client or raving fan is they just don’t know about you!

In order to grow your business, you have to be visible! You must reach these new prospects where they already are—at virtual networking events or meetings; on radio and podcasts; and on virtual summits!

Find out EXACTLY what it takes to be a sought-after superstar to get booked time and again for all of these!   You’ll learn:

  • How do you get your speaking calendar revved up and rocketing
  • How to find the radio shows and podcasts that will give you a great showcase and connect you with their legions of listeners

Next month, on December 8, 2020 at 1 pm ET / 12 pm CT / 11 am MT / 10 am PT.  Our guest will be Marika Flatt, Founder and Chief Publicity Strategist for PR By The Book.  Her company helps authors elevate their relevancy and create buzz.  Marika has worked with over 900 authors to promote their books and will share her wisdom on the best ways for authors to promote their books.

Last month, we heard from Barbara Hemphill, founder of Productive Environment Institute. Her passion is helping people accomplish their work and enjoy their lives and organizations to increase profit, productivity, and peace of mind. Barbara provided many de-clutter tips as well as discussing how her books have been a significant component of her continuing success.  Barbara referred listeners to her free webinar  www.tameyourpapertiger.com that discusses her system for organizing one’s home and office, and to view additional resources at her website www.productionenvironmentnetwork.com.

3. Tip of the Month: Leveraging Your Book

Most authors do not receive a return on the investment they make in publishing their book from the book’s royalties.  In fact, the average author sells less than 500 copies of their book.  The best way to get a return on investment is to leverage your book by creating multiple sources of income.

One source is obviously the royalties from book sales.  What are some of the other ways you can leverage your book?  When you are a published author, it will be easier for you to obtain paid speaking engagements.  You may also be able to get a sponsor of the event to purchase your book in bulk for the attendees; or if you can’t get a sponsor, you could try bundling your book price into your speaker fee and offer to provide a copy of your book to the attendees, since your aim is to get your book into as many hands as possible.  Even if you don’t charge a fee to speak, you can sell copies of your book to the members of the audience, and you might get some good leads for your consulting services or products.  Similarly, you can get media interviews that will expand your visibility, which can lead to greater credibility, more leads and more book sales.

Another opportunity is to create a coaching program or MasterMind to provide a deeper dive for your readers who want help implementing the concepts you have included in your book.  You can also use your book as a lead magnet into other programs that you offer, such as an online course or training program, or use it to upsell other online products.  For these tactics to work effectively, it will be important for you to learn who is reading your book so you can nurture the relationship and convert them into a customer.  To do that, you need to create opt-in opportunities in your book that will drive the reader to provide you with their contact information.

If you would like assistance with leveraging your book, give me a call.  You can take advantage of the Thanksgiving offer and obtain a free consulting session!
