February ‘22 Newsletter
What a journey this has been! When I created the SkillBites platform 10 years ago, my aim was to make it as easy and convenient for business owners to publish a book that would help them grow their business. At the time, I was focused on short books – basically lead magnets that business owners could give away, that would be quick to write, quick to read, and give prospects a taste of the author’s expertise (hence the name SkillBites).
Since then, I’ve expanded to help business owners with longer books, and have added many services, such as ghostwriting, book coaching and marketing campaigns, as well as DIY digital courses on book writing and publishing and DWY programs to provide the support to get your book done and (soon to be) for leveraging a book.
I greatly appreciate all of the authors I’ve helped and the loyal members of the SkillBites community. As a token of my appreciation, I’m offering a gift that you can read about below.
1. Save The Dates!
Next month, on March 8, I will be offering my workshop called Publishing Profits: Create A Path To Your Book’s Success. In this workshop, you’ll obtain the guidance to enable you to identify the actions you need to take to achieve the success you want from your book. Knowing what you want your book to do for you isn’t enough. Without a plan for achieving the results you want, you’re not likely to reach your goals. For more information and to sign up for this workshop, click here.
“I attended the Publishing Profits workshop hosted by Judy Weintraub, and thought it was excellent. I had not fully appreciated how beneficial my book could be for my business until I went through the exercises in the workshop. I’m now more motivated and more clear on why I need to get my book done.”
Michael Karwic, Certified Financial Planner, West Chester, PA

3. Book Writing Mastermind
For those of you who are struggling to get your book written, I’ve developed a program that will provide the knowledge, guidance, support and accountability you need to write your book. This is a beta program, so you have the opportunity to get in at a substantially reduced price. I’ll be hosting a MasterMind for 3 months, meeting for an hour twice a month. The fee will be $997 for the 6 sessions, 50% of what it will be in the future. The MasterMind is specifically designed to help business owners and professionals get your book written. If you are interested, email me or call me so we can have a conversation and make sure you are a good fit.
4. Publication Refresh
SkillBites has recently completed updating two books by long-time SkillBites client Joe Tumolo. Joe rebranded his company and wanted his books to reflect the new company name and logo. In addition to these changes, Joe’s books now contain an updated copyright date, rather than the 2016 and 2017 copyright dates in the original books.
Have you written a book that needs updating? Perhaps you want to update the content, or update some links that are in your book. Give us a call – we can help you make that happen.
5. The SkillBites Show
Each month, we bring you an expert to help you get your book done, leverage your book, grow your business or improve your life. The shows are recorded, and you can listen to the recording by clicking here.
On our next SkillBites Show our guest will be Coach Ted Behr. Ted works with entrepreneurs and business owners whose businesses are suffering due to their struggle with procrastination, disorganization and distraction. He helps them to get the things done that are required for an exceedingly successful business so that they make more money and have a happier life.
Procrastination is a major issue for many business owners, who lose hours of productivity because of it. For authors in particular, there is nothing like writing a book to put you in the jaws of a procrastination habit.
In addition to loss of productivity, procrastination also causes stress, anxiety, loss of money, health and self-esteem, and so on. In this podcast episode, Ted will talk about some of the things that cause us to procrastinate and then provide several strategies so you will have some tools for overcoming your procrastination habit.
Last month, my guest was Richelle Wiseman, a professional writer, book coach, editor, and ghostwriter. Richelle covered ways to overcome mindset issues – perfectionism, imposter syndrome, lack of time and self-doubts. She also covered such topics as how to get started writing a book, and how to pre-market your book. Richelle offered to the SkillBites’ community her eBook Release Your Inner Writer at richellewiseman.com/releaseyourinnerwriter
If you missed this presentation, you can listen to it by clicking here, or you can read a summary of the show on the SkillBites blog by clicking here.
SAVE THE DATE: Next month, my guest will be Schroeder Nordholt. Schroeder is a seasoned music educator, producer & performer. Over the years he’s appeared on the better part of 1000 stages, and shared the stage with coaching and personal development leaders such as Sean D. Stewart and Les Brown.
Currently he runs his signature voice coaching program & method called Mic Drop. Mic Drop serves to empower professional speakers & passionate entrepreneurs to deliver their message with confidence & clarity, so they can step into the larger-than-life version of themselves, command the stage every time they speak, and make the impact they’re truly here to make. In this podcast episode, Schroeder shares several tips on improving one’s voice when making an important speech or presentation, so your message gets conveyed effectively.

6. Tip of the Month: Trim Sizes
When writing a book, most people type in a Word document that is 8 ½” x 11”, or handwrite on a pad that is also 8 ½” x 11”. Most books, however, are smaller than that. The size of the book is referred to as the trim size. The most common trim sizes for books are 6” x 9”, 5 ½” x 8 ½” and 7” x 10”, but there are many more sizes than those three.
What trim size should you choose? If your book is not long and you want to make it appear longer, you could choose a smaller trim size, since there would be fewer words per page, and thus more pages than if you chose a larger trim size. Particularly if your book length is around 110 pages, choosing a smaller trim size could get you up to 120 pages, which would make it wide enough to have legible text on the book’s spine. SkillBites has helped several authors increase the length of their books so they can have text on the spine. That is important for people seeking to use their book to get speaking engagements. Conversely, if your book is very long and you wanted to reduce the number of pages, thereby reducing the cost of printing copies, you could choose a larger trim size.
You could decide to pick a size that will stand out on a bookshelf. A 7” x 10” book will be a bit taller than most of the other books, for instance. If you make the book too large, though, it may not fit on some bookshelves. You could also look at other books in your genre, particularly the ones that are selling well, and see what trim size they are. This may be a small detail, but it is worth considering when you are designing the layout of your book.
