November 2018

I am grateful for many things in my life, including my SkillBites community.  I appreciate your loyalty and support, and as a token of my appreciation, I am offering 2 gifts to help those who are struggling to write a book and those wanting to get their book published.  Read below for more information.

Recently, I started attending Tai Chi classes.  I had previously done some Tai Chi about 20 years ago and had enjoyed it, but somehow after we moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania, I didn’t make the effort to find a studio.  The studio I joined does things differently, so it’s almost like starting from scratch, but that’s OK – it’s relaxing, enjoyable, the other students are all friendly and it’s good exercise.

The instructor told us a story about a student who had Parkinson’s Disease, whose doctor encouraged him to start taking Tai Chi.  He had significant tremors in his arms and could barely walk when he started; yet just 3 weeks later, his tremors had all but disappeared and he was walking almost normally!  The only thing he was doing differently was the Tai Chi, which he was doing for about 30 minutes 3 times per day!  Tai Chi is designed to increase the flow of energy in one’s body, causing blockages to break up.  Perhaps it can help whatever ailments you might be suffering from.

Starting something new is difficult and can be frustrating.  There’s a learning curve, and keeping that in mind can help you get through to the point where it is less frustrating and more enjoyable.  If you’ve been meaning to start something new, I encourage you to do it.  As Mary Poppins said, once begun is half done.  Take that first step.

1. It is Time?

So many people tell me that they really want to get their book written but they just can’t find the time.  To help those for whom getting a book done is a high priority, I have developed a workshop designed to enable you to find the time to get your book written.  The workshop is 4 one-hour sessions, one week apart.  The fee is $195.  There are only a few places left so if this is something you want to do, please contact me at judy@skillbites.net as soon as possible.

2. The SkillBites Show

Each month, we bring you an expert to help you get your book done, leverage your book, grow your business or improve your life.  The shows are recorded, so if you can’t listen to one live, you can listen to the recording by clicking here

Our next SkillBites Show will be held on Tuesday, November 20, at 1 pm ET.  Our guest will be Kim McDonnel, a Holistic Health Coach and Spiritual Counselor and author of You Change, They Change:  How to take control of your life by losing control over others.  Kim narrated her own audiobook.  She will talk about her journey to health through the system that she teaches in her book as well as how she accomplished the creation of her audiobook.

3. Tip of the Month:  Book One-Sheets

Perhaps you’ve heard of One Sheets for speakers, used to obtain speaking engagements.  These usually consist of the speaker’s photo, speaking topics, credentials, published books, testimonials and other relevant information.  The speaker sends the one sheet to event planners or organizations seeking speakers.

Did you know that you can create something similar for your book?  An impressive-looking book one-sheet can help you sell more copies of your book.  You can use a book one-sheet to sell your book to bookstores, libraries, businesses, non-profits, schools and other organizations.  You can use it to get media interviews, and include it with your speaking one-sheet to get speaking engagements.

The book one-sheet usually includes the following information:

  • Front cover of the book,
  • An author photo and credentials,
  • A description of the book,
  • The author’s contact information,
  • Where the book can be purchased,
  • The different formats available (ebook, paperback, audiobook),
  • The price for each format, and
  • Testimonials or well-known contributors

SkillBites can create a book one-sheet for your book.  Contact us for more information at 610-783-4519.

4. New Royalty Payment Program

Amazon has announced that royalty payments for books published through KDP will be made 60 days after the end of each month instead of 30 days as it had been paying.  Accordingly, SkillBites’ royalty payments to our authors will be made 60 days from the end of each calendar quarter instead of 30 days.
